As I watch the news on this Passover day, I see division on all sides. Trump says “America is going to Hell”and it is not the only Western nation tearing itself apart. Here in Australia, we have an apparently naive Prime Minister determined to change our Constitution, and thereby create division between the indigenous minority and the rest. Britain is ridden with endless strikes because the economy is bust, and France can’t accept that fact itself, either.
Prophecy is being fulfilled around the world, and sadly, there is even division in God’s Church. Some division is caused by the gospel. Luke 12:51, ‘Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division.’
John 7:5. ‘For neither did his brethren believe in him.’ We have to accept that Truth can cause divisions as we don’t all see the scriptures in the same way, at the same time.
But we must not let that separate us from the love that should unite us.’ 2 Corinthians 12:20, ‘For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults.’ John 13:35, ‘By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.’ Galatians 5:22, ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.’
Our Saviour still had love for all His churches listed in Revelation 2-3, even though He hated some of their doctrines, so we cannot let doctrine cut off the love we should have for each other.
God help us to learn that, so that we maybe of use to Him, in His Kingdom, Ephesians 5:2, ‘And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.’
